Ethiopian Media Authority suspends Reporter newspaper license
The Ethiopian Media Authority has announced an indefinite suspension of the registration certificates for both Amharic and English editions of the Reporter newspaper and its digital platforms, effective from November 2. The authority stated that it has been monitoring the outlet for the past year and identified repeated violations of media laws and professional ethics.
According to the authority, the violations include broadcasting content contrary to national interests, creating confusion on political and economic issues, and disseminating distorted information that negatively impacts foreign investment, tourism, and diplomacy. The authority noted that despite previous discussions and warnings issued to the owners and editors, no improvements were observed, necessitating the suspension.
