COMESA Review Looms Over Ola Energy and TotalEnergies Ethiopia Merger

The COMESA Competition Commission is reviewing Ola Energy's proposed acquisition of TotalEnergies' Ethiopian business operations. Under an agreement signed in Paris on June 30, 2026, over 120 fuel stations and related logistical infrastructure are set to be transferred to Ola Energy. However, the deal has raised antitrust concerns, as the merger could grant the combined entity control over nearly 50 percent of Ethiopia's retail fuel market. COMESA regulators are currently evaluating whether the consolidation poses a threat to market competition.
