Russia-Africa Summit Concludes in Moscow
The third Russia-Africa summit concluded in Moscow after two days, featuring participation from 48 African nations, including 22 heads of state such as Ethiopia's Prime Minister and Eritrea's President. Discussions centered on trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and security, with President Putin pledging to expand cooperation and support Africa's presence in international institutions. Putin criticized Western nations, accusing them of colonialist mindsets, and positioned Russia as a partner focused on mutual respect and shared benefits.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed participated, highlighting Ethiopia's focus on agriculture, food security, and the development of nuclear energy with Russian assistance. Although annual trade between Russia and Africa remains significantly lower than that with China or Europe, attendees agreed to strengthen economic ties and establish frameworks for implementation. Despite the commitments made, analysts note skepticism regarding the actual execution of these agreements due to Russia's current involvement in the war in Ukraine and its internal limitations.
