Efforts Underway to Restore Addis West Power Substation

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is working on two parallel solutions to restore the Addis West power substation, which has been out of service due to a technical failure. EEP is transporting a replacement transformer from Arba Minch, while simultaneously repairing the damaged transformer at the Gelan Workshop center in Addis Ababa. The solution that is completed first will be implemented to restore power.

According to EEP communication director Moges Mekonnen, setting an exact completion date is difficult due to the complexity of the technical tasks involved and the cautious pace of transport. The replacement transformer is being moved with extensive care, accompanied by survey teams. Residents in the affected areas of Addis Ababa have been without power for the past 15 days, and the authorities have asked for patience as they resolve the issue.
