US Secretary of State Holds Talks with PM Abiy Ahmed

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. They discussed the escalating tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea, with Secretary Rubio calling on both sides to de-escalate the situation.

The Secretary emphasized that the only sustainable solution to regional tensions is dialogue based on the 2018 Ethio-Eritrea peace agreement. Furthermore, he urged all nations in the Horn of Africa to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their neighbors and to refrain from cross-border incursions, stating that the region cannot afford further conflict.
