Attack on Finchaa Sugar Factory Results in 5 Deaths

Armed groups have attacked the Finchaa Sugar Factory located in the Sulula Finchaa district of Western Oromia. The attack resulted in the deaths of four militia members and one civilian, while two factory employees were kidnapped. Local residents reported that a branch of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia was looted, and nearly 40 motorcycles along with four vehicles were burned.

The attack occurred early yesterday morning at around 5:00 AM. Security forces reportedly engaged the attackers, including the use of drone strikes, though the extent of damage to the militants remains unconfirmed. Factory officials and relevant authorities have not yet provided a response to the incident. This facility previously suffered a similar attack in May 2023, which resulted in billions of birr in losses.
