Militant attacks continue in Kore Zone, resulting in civilian deaths
Civilians have been killed and properties looted due to persistent attacks by militants in the Kore Zone of the Southern Ethiopia Region. Regional council member Deyamo Dale stated that militants from West Guji Zone's Galana and Suroburguda districts are repeatedly attacking, and the issue remains unresolved without federal intervention. Victims identified include Melaku Mazre, Kedir Abdu, and Mohammed Derese, with reports of significant livestock theft.
Deyamo attributes the ongoing conflict to land disputes and lack of formal boundary demarcation, which creates risks for farmers in the area. He noted that over 400 people have been killed in the zone since 2017, criticizing the federal government for failing to intervene in the inter-regional dispute. Efforts to obtain responses from Guji Zone authorities were unsuccessful.
