13 killed in renewed violence in Gambella Region

Gambella Regional Police Commissioner Doro Karu announced that 13 people were killed, 8 wounded, and 2 went missing following an attack in the Itang special district. This incident follows a previous attack in the Nuer Zone that left 16 people dead. Residents and police sources point to ethnic bias within the regional security apparatus and the involvement of South Sudanese gunmen as major contributors to the escalating violence. The commissioner confirmed the presence of armed individuals carrying South Sudanese flags and noted that the weapons used were not standard issue for regular security forces. He promised that further disciplinary measures against security personnel involved in bias will continue once the situation stabilizes.
