TPLF Southern Tigray Commander Maj. Gen. Yohannis W/Giorgis Reportedly Surrenders

Sources told the BBC that Major General Yohannis W/Giorgis, a senior military commander for TPLF in Southern Tigray, has surrendered to the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF). The General, also known as John Medid, along with his security detail and seven commanders holding the rank of Colonel, were reportedly surrounded and captured last Monday near Qushe Simret in the Rama district of Central Tigray. He is currently reported to be in Adwa under the custody of the ENDF. The Ethiopian government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the event. General Yohannis was a key figure in reorganizing Tigrayan forces since 2021 and previously served as a high-ranking officer in the national military.
