Major General Yohannes Woldegiorgis apprehended
Major General Yohannes Woldegiorgis (known as John Medid), a high-ranking commander of the Tigray forces, has been apprehended by the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF). Tigray Peace Force leadership confirmed that the General was captured today in the Central Zone of Tigray, specifically in the Simret kebele, after being surrounded by government forces. Along with the General, 7 senior military officers ranging from Colonel to Major, and 18 staff members—totaling 25 individuals—were also taken into custody.
Major General Yohannes had previously served in the national army before retiring, but joined the TPLF side in October 2020 to lead combat operations. He recently gained attention for his public statement that "a generation must prepare for sacrifice." The government has not provided specific details on the circumstances of the operation, but confirmed the capture is a significant security development.
