Addis Ababa Lifts Ban on Farmers' Land Title Certificates
The Addis Ababa City Administration Land Development and Administration Bureau has officially announced the lifting of the ban on land holding certificates issued for farmers' holdings. The restriction had previously been put in place to prevent certificates for farmers' land from being transferred or conveyed to third parties. According to the bureau, the original ban aimed to protect farmers from economic and social crises and to ensure their land tenure security. However, gaps in good governance and persistent complaints from landholders were observed while the ban was in effect. To address these administrative challenges and respond to public grievances, the bureau decided to lift the suspension effective Nehase 14, 2018 E.C. The decision applies to certificates issued for residential, enterprise, and agricultural land uses. The bureau has strictly instructed all sub-city land offices and relevant authorities to execute the process with high discipline and care.
