Ethiopian Media Authority Warns Abay TV Over Ethical Violations; Station Apologizes

The Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) has issued an official warning to Abay Television following a three-month media content monitoring period from June to August. According to EMA, the broadcaster committed various legal and ethical journalism violations in its news, entertainment programs, and advertisements. Specific faults highlighted include the transmission of inappropriate language that conflicts with societal culture and values, content with potential negative impacts on youth, programming that infringes upon women's dignity, and the use of unverified sources in news reporting. EMA Director General Haymanot Zeleke stated that these violations are completely unacceptable and urged the station to take immediate corrective measures to align its editorial policy with national media laws and professional standards. In response, Abay Television management accepted the monitoring findings, publicly apologized for the mistakes, and committed to implementing recommendations to improve content quality.
