Dangote Group launches $2.5 billion fuel storage and pipeline project in Namibia
The Dangote Group has launched a 2.5 billion USD fuel storage and pipeline project near Walvis Bay, Namibia, aimed at strengthening energy security and serving landlocked southern African nations. The facility, with a 600-million-litre capacity, will supply Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and the DRC. Namibian President Nandi-Ndaitwah has placed the project under direct presidential oversight until its completion.
Aliko Dangote stated that the investment is part of a broader strategy to create an integrated African petroleum distribution network. Notably, the group is simultaneously developing fuel storage and pipeline infrastructure between Djibouti and Ethiopia. The project aims to reduce fuel costs across the region by utilizing refined products from Dangote's Lagos refinery, which is currently undergoing capacity expansion.
